Stroud Valley Credit Union celebrates 20th anniversary

It was a celebration of a fantastic 20 years of service to its community and a personal thanks to staff and members for helping achieve an excellent position for the credit union to be in. In attendance was David Drew MP for Stroud who has been a strong supporter of the credit union in the past and recently pledged his support when SVCU prepared to help those most vulnerable before Universal Credit rolled out.

SVCU also celebrated a successful financial year, reporting that loans to members and member shares have both increased.  A clear a sign of support and belief by the membership in the work of the credit union. 

Back in January SVCU were delighted to receive a £10,000 grant from Stroud District Council. The grant made a valuable contribution to maintaining the SVCU office in the Old Town Hall.  John Appleton, SVCU Chair of Directors is overwhelmed by the support of the local council, John said: “We’re so pleased that the district council, through this grant, has shown its support for helping local people can become more financially resilient by making sure they can access to our services. Plus everyone doing business with Stroud Valleys Credit Union is helping to support the credit union is helping to support the local economy”. 

Business Support Officer for Stroud District Council, Karon Johnson highlighted the importance of the credit union with the funding from the council, Karon said: “Stroud District Council councillors are pleased to award this grant to Stroud Valleys Credit Union which forms part of our work to support organisations that are helping vulnerable people in times of hardship”.
