Last week, Enterprise Credit Union (ECU) celebrated its 30 year anniversary by hosting a special gala event, where staff from past and present reflected on its 30 years of service to their community.
Thirty years on from its humble beginnings in a small local church, the Merseyside-based credit union now serves over 19,500 members across Liverpool, Knowsley and St. Helens and is one of the most successful credit unions in the country.
The theme of the evening at the gala event was ‘The greatest Oaks have been little acorns’, which was consistent throughout the Chief Executive, Karen Bennett’s speech at last week’s event.
Karen has witnessed huge growth in her time at ECU and proudly reported that ECU has reached a significant milestone in lending to its members, totalling a £100 million over their 30 years of service to its community. Also 2017 was a record breaking year which saw ECU lending over £20 million in one year.
Now achieving a personal milestone for herself, Karen is in her 20th year involved with ECU and reflects on the growth during her time as a member of staff, Karen said: “I can’t thank enough of everyone who’s played a part in getting us this far. We’ve passed some outstanding milestones since 1988. 30 years, 6 branches, £100m issued so far and 28 staff members later, we’re all beaming with pride at how far we’ve come.
“Being part of the credit union movement has always meant more to me than a job. I like to think I’m just one of many people helping people all across the UK, and the world”.
A special video was shown at the event to celebrate its 30 year history and the impact ECU has had in its community. You can view the video on YouTube here.
