Robert Kelly begins his role as ABCUL CEO

This week, the new ABCUL Chief Executive, Robert Kelly began his role and is looking forward to moving the association forward to enhance its services.

With over 15 years’ worth of experience in the credit union sector, overseeing a 400% expansion as CEO of NHS Credit Union and serving as ABCUL President, Robert is now ready for his next challenge in moving the Association forward and enhancing its services to members.

In his first week in the role, Robert has attended the ABCUL Cymru Forum to meet with members and outline his vision to develop the sector in Great Britain. This Forum visit will be the first of many as Robert will be travelling up and down the country visiting each Forum area.

Speaking to members, Robert said: “I want to reiterate my absolute desire to move the Association forward and to enhance our service. We deliver more with a unity of purpose and a collective and consultative vision that is forward thinking, challenging and inspirational.

“By working together through ABCUL, credit unions achieve more than they could alone and I can’t wait to lead the Association in adding value to our members, and by extension, society. I know I take the helm of a committed staff and board team dedicated to delivering for members every day.

 “Our best days are in front of us – everything we do will be underpinned by our core values, our ethical base and our focus on co-operation, collaboration and transparency. Brave and tenacious leadership underpinned by integrity is required and that is what I promise to deliver”.

ABCUL President, Karen Bennett spoke of her delight to have Robert leading the Association, Karen said: “The ABCUL Board is thrilled to appoint a new Chief Executive, Robert’s talent, skills and experience. He brings enormous knowledge of the sector, its challenges and the role of the Association in enabling our members to rise to them.

"He has a vision for the future of ABCUL and for the credit union movement at large which the Board and I fully support. This is an extremely exciting time for the credit union movement with our mission has never been so relevant".
