CU Futures continue their development course at Citi Headquarters

Last week, the CU Futures Class of 2019 continued their progression through the programme with a two-day event hosted by Citi at their UK headquarters in Canary Wharf.

The former Chair of the Credit Union Foundation and well-known broadcaster and journalist, Liz Barclay delivered media and communications training to the group and by the end of the morning had them ready for live radio interviews and presenting to civil servants. The expertise that Liz is able to share with the CU Futures is invaluable and we are delighted that she generously gives her time and continues to support the Programme.

A key element of the CU Futures Programme is the development in teams of proposals to meet sector challenges. These are presented to a panel of experts in March each year at ABCUL’s Annual Conference and the group with the best proposal receives a prize. Therefore this was a key opportunity for them to gather in their groups and work on their proposals.

ABCUL’s Head of Member Services, Rosanna Donovan travelled with the group and said: “It was great to see this year’s class participate in their second round of training in London last week. Every year the CU Futures programme is filled with enthusiasm and it is no different in the class of 2019.

“It was brilliant to hear such fresh engaging ideas about how they want to tackle the credit union sector’s main challenges”.

On day two the class participated in their second part of The Pacific Institute training. The Pacific Institute Lifestyles Inventory is part of the personal development module; all participants reported on the progress they had made since the first session in June and the impact of this training across their professional and personal lives.

Reflecting on this year’s class and looking forward to March, Rosanna added: “Over the year, this class – who are the future of the British credit union movement – will not only experience some unique opportunities for personal learning and development, but will be equipped to develop and educate their peers and colleagues and the next generation of credit union leaders.

“We are privileged to have such bright and enthusiastic young people in our sector willing to step up to this challenge. We are committed to seeing all of them graduate in March 2019 and we will encourage, support and work together as a strong team throughout the Programme.”
